semulator
a practice ground for google ads.
new marketers were learning google ads the expensive way, with real budgets. semulator lets them build an ad, run it in a safe copy of google ads, and see what would have happened. we came in to help it start earning.

the app
what semulator does.
the founders come from marketing. they kept watching junior marketers learn google ads by spending real money, and losing a lot of it while they found their feet.
semulator is the practice round. you set up a campaign the way you would in google ads, press run, and get back what it would likely have brought in. then you change things and try again, as many times as you like, for free.
modelled on google ads

build the ad
a 10 step journey that mirrors a real google ads setup: goals, budget, keywords, ad copy and more, with a short video on every step.
run it
the founders' own scoring, built from years of running real campaigns, plays the campaign out.
read the report
leads, conversion rate and money spent, laid out the way a client report would be.
get better
plain suggestions on what to change, so the next run does better than the last.

step 1: set your goals

step 2: set a daily budget

step 4: pick your keywords

step 9: check the summary, then run
it's a practice tool, not a crystal ball. the point is to make the mistakes here, where they cost nothing.
our part
what we did.
the app worked. it needed the parts that turn something people try into something people pay for.
a way to take money
people were using it, but there was no way to pay. we added paid plans, from one for solo learners up to one for agencies and teams, and worked out the pricing with the founder so each step up felt worth it.

reports you can keep
every practice campaign ends with a full score, keyword by keyword. we made it something you can take away: one tap for a pdf to share, one for a spreadsheet to dig into, or a link to send.

emails that just work
welcome emails, password resets and payment receipts go out on their own, at the right moment.

- payment received, thank you
the data, made usable
the founders had one very large raw data file behind the exercises. we reshaped it so the app could load it quickly and people could actually use it.

how we did it
step by step.
about 3 weeks, start to finish.
we looked before touching anything
a full walk through the app to understand what it does and how the last studio built it.
small changes first
a few small fixes the founder asked for, so we learned the app on low risk work and earned some trust.
clickupplans and screens drawn first
every payment screen designed up front, and the pricing agreed with the founder before any building.
figmabuilt, tested, then reviewed
we tested it ourselves first, then the founder went through it. every request came in as a ticket, scoped before we started.
bubbleclickuplive, and we stayed
launched with 14 days of free support, so anything odd got fixed straight away.
the tricky part
someone else built it, and every team builds in its own way. we didn't bolt our habits onto theirs. we learned how the app was put together and carried on in the same style, so it still reads as one app and stays easy to look after.
anyone can build an app now, especially with ai. getting people to pay for it is the hard part. that's what we built here.
