taraki
from 50,000 to 300,000 users, with us on the team.
an app other people had started. a lot of new users on the way. no room for it to break. we spent two years inside taraki's team and helped carry it from a first version to 300,000 users.

the app
what taraki does.
there are plenty of job sites for office work. for drivers, cooks, guards and shop staff in pakistan, there were very few. taraki was built for them.
the founders, hassan and salman, came from investment banking, not software. they knew exactly who they were serving. when we joined, about 50,000 people had signed up. the idea was working. the app wasn't keeping up: workers gave up halfway through their profile, several developers had been through it before us, and every small fix broke something else.

make a profile
workers sign up on their phone and fill in a short profile.
pass a skills check
a few multiple choice questions, plus a selfie, an id card or school records where needed.
see the right jobs
each worker sees the jobs that fit them, out of thousands.
get hired
employers shortlist, message on whatsapp and hire, all in one place.
taraki has since moved off bubble to a custom built app, so the screens on this page show taraki today. the numbers are from the version we worked on.
our part
what we did.
we worked inside taraki's team for two years. these are the parts we're proudest of.
sign up that people finish
most workers were on a phone, and many weren't used to long forms. we rebuilt the whole profile journey so it takes the least time possible, and far fewer people quit halfway.
messages on whatsapp, not email
most people in pakistan don't check email every day. so updates to workers and employers go out on whatsapp, on their own.

a place for employers, and one for taraki
employers post jobs and move applicants through each stage. taraki's own staff run everything from their side, with reports they can download.

getting paid
employers pay taraki through paymob, a pakistani payment provider, when they hire someone through the app.
seeing what's working
we set up tracking so the founders could see where people dropped off and what they actually used, and decide what to build next.
search and destroy, our idea
nobody asked for this one. years of different developers had left the app full of things nobody used: old fields, hidden buttons, half finished processes running in the background. we spent two weeks finding every one and removing it. the app got 23% faster.
how we did it
step by step.
two years, in two week rounds.
we joined their team
we came in as taraki's technology partner, alongside their product team, testers, support and sales.
a plan every two weeks
their product team set what mattered most. we spoke with the founders every week.
built, tested, then live
every change went through their testers before it went live.
we stayed for the bad days
when something broke, we were on it, whoever had built it.
the tricky part
one night the app started crashing for everyone. a piece it relied on had changed underneath it, and employers were waiting to hire. by 2:30 am seven of us were on it, the founder included. while we found the fix, we used the daily backup to reach workers outside the app and connect them with employers by hand. it was fully back within 18 hours. another time, the skills check broke while the developer who built it was on holiday. ehsan learned it from scratch and had it running again in 6 hours.
the thing i'm proudest of isn't a feature. people were signing up and quitting halfway. we rebuilt the journey around how they actually use their phones, and they stopped quitting.

grown, and still running.
brands like khaadi, kitchen cuisine, revolving games and daftarkhwan hired through it while we were there. today, companies across pakistan hire on taraki:
